IP87 Digital Positioner

Electro-Pneumatic Valve Positioner

digital positioner

The IP87 digital electro-pneumatic valve positioner acts as a digital positioner that works with a pneumatic actuator to correctly set valve positions according to the control signal. This minimizes the effects of friction and other factors that could impact a valve’s performance. It uses a 4–20-mA input and output for both the control and feedback signal.

The IP87 is easy to operate. It incorporates a navigation menu that operates via touchscreen buttons—a user interface not offered by other valve positioners. Workers can also calibrate the IP87’s preset parameters to meet their facility’s needs. The IP87 uses power failsafe storage for all parameters in the EEPROM. This system can also include optional accessories like assembly kits and manometer attachment kits.

Digital valve positioners help simplify safety life cycle phases within your facility. The digital positioner provides partial-proof testing of the logic system that commands it. In this process, the positioner executes the test and then logs the test data it obtains. Furthermore, the IP87 uses a digital valve controller to get feedback about the valve travel position, allowing the device to diagnose itself as well as the valve and actuators upon which it’s mounted.

The digital electro-pneumatic valve positioner complies with a wide array of accident-prevention regulations as well as the DIN VDE standards set by the German Institute for Standardization and the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies.

Features and Benefits of the IP87 Digital Positioner

Configuration and Operation

The IP87 consists of the following components:

  • Magnetoresistive sensor
  • Analogue I/P converter with a downstream air capacity booster
  • Electronics unit with a microcontroller

These components work with the resister to monitor valve operations. The positioner has a tight-closing function, which completely vents and/or fills the pneumatic actuator when the reference variable falls below 1% or rises above 99%.

The positioner operates in an open default direction of control conformation, meaning that pressure failure closes the valve. However, the director can be changed to a closed confirmation, which causes pressure failure to open the valve. Additionally, the valve can incorporate two optional closing directions: spindle up or spindle down.

Accessories

Available accessories for the IP87 include:

  • Complete adaptation parts, which include pneumatic connecting parts for replacement or retrofitting
  • A pneumatics connection kit, which includes two L-shaped plug connections, a straight plug connection, and a polyamide tube
  • A manometer mounting kit, with two manometers
